Ethel Julien is a judge for the Orleans Parish Civil District Court (Division N) in Orleans Parish, Louisiana. She has served in this position since September 25, 1995. She was the chief judge of this court from January 1, 2005, to December 31, 2006. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2020. Julien received her B.A. in liberal arts from Tulane University and her J.D. from the Southern University School of Law, where she was the top of her class. She was admitted to the bar in 1982.
Julien first worked as an associate at Jefferson, Bryan, Gray and Jupiter Attorneys and Counselors at Law from 1983 to 1988. She then founded the law firm of Julien and Julien in 1989, where she worked as a partner until her judicial election in 1995. From September of 1993 to March of 1994, she also served as judge pro tempore on the Orleans Parish Civil Court.
