Edwin Byrd is a judge for the 1st Judicial District Court of Louisiana. He was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020. Prior to his election, Byrd was a partner at Pettiette, Armand, Dunkelman, Woodley, Byrd & Cromwell, a law firm based in Shreveport. During his tenure there, he represented law enforcement agencies in a variety of settings.

Byrd earned his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in 1985. He then completed a J.D. at Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, in 1989. As a law student, he was senior editor for the Louisiana Law Review.

After graduating from law school, Byrd began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Tom Stagg of the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. He served in that capacity until 1991, at which time he entered into private practice.
